Amino acids are organic compounds possessing both acidic and amino properties. They consist of a carboxyl group and an amino group (nitrogen compounds). Many amino acids together form proteins, which are essential components of every living cell. More than 20 different amino acids are involved in protein synthesis, and many of them also participate in metabolic processes.
Description
The human body absorbs amino acids through dietary proteins, which are broken down in the body by enzymes. Of all amino acids, 8 are not synthesized in the body and must be obtained from the diet. These are called essential amino acids: phenylalanine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. These amino acids must be included in the diet because without them, the synthesis of necessary proteins is not possible.
In many diseases and metabolic disorders, there is accelerated protein breakdown or impaired absorption of amino acids. Over time, a deficiency of certain amino acids develops, which needs to be compensated for. For this purpose, infusions containing various amino acids are produced. Some of them are specifically tailored to the needs of oncology patients.
